not in prison, but in chains by US policies

I have been suffering for 14 months with chronic pain in my back and leg that is getting progressively worse and as my doctors are unable to find the source, I am sifting through piles of prescription bottles. No medication has given me significant relief alone so I am presently on a cocktail of ineffective and even dangerous medications such as hydrocodone (vicodin), lorazepam (ativan… much like valium), lyrica (an anti-epileptic used to treat nerve pain), lidoderm (patches with local anasthetics), celexa (an antidepressant like zoloft or prozac) and 12 hour morphine sulfate.

There is one medication that I have tried that far exceeds not only the efficacy, but the safety of all the others. This medication relaxes my spastic muscles, alleviates the nerve pain in my leg that prevents me from walking much and also helps dramatically with the depression I face dealing with this monster of a condition.

This medication is beginning to be accepted by many as a legitimate and efficacious remedy to more than a handful of conditions but the federal government refuses to ally with the patients and 12 enlightened states (as well as Canada and Western Europe) who have taken the blinders off their eyes and decided that patients’ quality of life trumps antiquated morality laws held up by the ignorant, partisan powers that be in this country.

Frequently I risk arrest and many far reaching consequences for pursuing a medication that has allowed me to attend class, work and have a hair of my social life remain. I have to spend the little money I have on overpriced products that I don’t know the purity of or where the profits ultimately funnel. The government is not looking out for my well being, not treating my health or protecting me from anything. Their ignorant, Bibleslation serves no one but themselves and their closed minded consituents who ignore our problems.

In summation, everyday is a struggle and some days when I have the ability, the struggle is made a little easier thanks to a proven medicine that my state and federal governments refuse to recognize. Anyone who reads this needs to understand how much better my quality of life is while utilizing this herb and that justice is needed for patients requiring proper medication. We need to fight the DEA cracking down on doctors who prescribe adequate narcotic medications and the persecution and prosecution of suffering patients like myself who are afforded small bursts of relief from the innocuous herb.
